Day 6

Day 6
September 13

Today was our final day of Stage 1 taking us from Farewell Bend State Park, Oregon to Boise, Idaho.  The total mileage was just over 80 miles and a fairly easy day with no significant climbing.  As we began the day our route took us along the Snake River then through agricultural valley between Payette, Idaho and Emmett, Idaho.  After a quick luch in Emmett we started a long slow climb up a low pass called "freeze out hill.". The climb was hot and made a little longer since I had a flat just as the climb began.  Once up the pass we had a pretty smooth ride down into Boise where we arrived at about 4:30 to a welcome party or Marilyn, Darcy Welch and their son, Wes Welch who is attending college in Boise.

I have enjoyed having Pete & Darcy Welch and my brother, Tom, join me for this first stage.  They will be heading back to Seattle tomorrow and Marilyn and I will enjoy a rest day.  I've been looking forward to this rest day.  We have riden a total of 559 miles these past 6 days and my body is ready for a day off.
